What happens when you blend the behind-the-scenes allure of 30 Rock, the clever quirks of Glee, the sketchtasticness of SNL, and shake it up for the super-sophisticated, Instagram-obsessed tween generation of 2017?
You get OurShow, a half-hour hybrid of hilarious hijinks and youthful heart.
Meet Reston. A quietly aspiring writer-producer, he’s the new kid in junior high. Meet Millie. Outgoing and persistent, she’s lived in the same house her whole life and is always looking for adventure. Millie befriends (well ambushes, really) Reston, after stumbling upon his notebook, and begs to produce a show with him. Reston reluctantly relents, and OurShow is born.
Millie and Reston recruit Millie’s younger sister, Violet, and her best friend Alexander. Violet is a spacey-yet-ambitious 9 year old, who takes school very seriously, but has a weakness for daydreaming and books. Alexander is an emerging young hipster who loves music, dancing, and goofing off. Whether they’re partnering in show-stopping (literally) shenanigans or arguing as only 9 year olds can, the dynamic duo bring loads of spontaneity and charm to the table.
OurShow is a fresh twist on a show about a show. Rock-your-socks-off sketches (parodies, musical numbers, random skits, you name it) are set in between the dramatic ups and downs of adolescent life, family, and indie film production. Inspired by the heart of today’s tweens, and written with a refreshing dose of authenticity and sparkling wit, OurShow is sure to stand out among a generation of multi-camera, formulaic, slapstick-ridden tween sitcoms.
OurShow was created by Kathryn Arnett and Katharine McKenny as part of The Newfangled Project.
"The Newfangled Project has a vision to change the landscape of television for young viewers. It's encouraging to watch talented artists growing a project from the conceptual stages into preproduction and beyond. Katharine and Kathryn possess a rare combination of creativity and responsibility, the two most important attributes behind any successful production. In their hands, I know OurShow will exceed even their lofty ambitions, providing much-needed quality programming to our younger viewers."
